If you lift my backpack, you'll probably assume I'v stuffed bricks in there from the bottom all the way to the top, but when you unsip the zipper, it's completely packed with books, papers, binders, and anything that's going to help me succeed. I tend to compress the majority of my textbooks inside of there at once, worried that I might need to quickly refresh my memory on the learning before a quiz, or I might need to accomplish a few problems of homework that I may have forgotten to complete the night before. I think my reasoning sums up enough about who I am already, I rely on having all that information stored near me because I am genuinely and anxious person who rarely ever relaxes. Additionally, you could infer that I'm prideful of the work I do, for I don't want to throw it out so soon. I want to keep it to show an accomplishment of the late night study session.

The apple generation is centered around smart phones, television, the internet, and social media. Although all of those can be beneficial, most of the youth utilize them to hide behind a fake image, or to prohibit creative thinking because it's "easier". In this classroom set up, many students are logged onto their individual devices, while the desks are arranged to highlight the smartboard and the computer. It's important for teachers to integrate this new technology, so our generation understands the proper methods to use these items for, and to also emphasize our creativity, and how these items can best benefit our wonder. Unfortunately, this classroom is typical. WIth white walls like a hospital, students often feel overwhelmed. The desks are cheap, and make it a challenge for students to collaborate with each other. School is supposed to be fun, and to emphasize that, I think it would be wise for the school to invesigate in some color, possibly blues or greens, to excite the students, and urge them to stay awake. My third grade teacher, Mrs. Miles, or as she liked to call herself, Mrs. S.Miles, was quite possibly one of the most creative, outgoing, and compassionate people I have ever met. From the minute you stepped foot into her classroom, the warmth of her welcome swarmed you, and it was suddenly as though you were transfered to a different life, a different universe, where ideas floated into clouds to be collaborated with everyone. It was its own little world of perfection, and I never wanted to leave. If you asked me if I could reverse time, and repeat it all over again, I would volunteer in a heartbeat. Her emphasis on writing, and painting images in your head allowed me to become the writer I am, and the creative thinker I claim to be. Because of her, I know I want to be an elementary teacher, and motivate kids to think, and act with creativity in mind, as she did with me.
The goal of a mentor is to help their shadow to travel down the path of their aspirations by lighting the way, and holding open the door. Not everyone is perfect, and at one point, the mentor was in the shoes of the mentee, making mistakes. Hopefully, the mentee should be a less experienced version of the mentor, and knowing that, the mentor should help the students succeed in the obstacles that were once too ominous for them themselves to climb.
"No matter how old you are, you learn something new everyday." Naturally, learning is constantly flowing into our bodies, learning defines our world, it grants us freedom, and an escape to happiness, where it can all be easier and more relaxed. Over time, learning has progressed to tests and homework problems, instead of the questions that can't be answered, that rely simply on opinion, encouraging its readers to discover more about themselves. That's the definition of learning, finding oneself, and understanding the beauty of the Earth, rather than the harsh sharp lines of math problems. What I love most about teaching, is having the ability to illuminate a cloud clumped with lusts of learning, and hand it on to my students, so they can fathom the beauty of wisdom and knowledge, while applying it to their experiences throughout the world.
Day 3: How will you help diverse students feel like they belong in your classroom or school?9/4/2014 Each person is an individual, with a personality fit just for themselves. I think as a teacher, I would hope to recognize how everyone is different, and emphasize the aspects that make the students feel unique, and pleased with themselves. My goal to be in the classroom, is to share with everyone the beauty in characteristics, and guide them to understand who they are, and to not only accept the differences between others, but to praise their individual personalities.
Although our population was raised by apple products, I'd like to work more with the iPads, simply because I don't believe they're user friendly for school. We have constant access to this piece of equipment, and the more I understand its benefits for school, the more efficiently I can use them, and create better projects.
Who's more inspiring, the teacher or the students? From different perspectives, it is often viewed as the teachers who are inspiring, but what makes a good teacher are the children who help build up the inspiration. Whether a teacher, or an average person, those around them draw the lines of who they can become. With every move one makes, they are altering the definition of the people around them, changing what they know, and how they can use that to succeed. As a teacher, that will one day be my job, to help students use what I give to them to better themselves and become the person they were meant to be. To inspire them.
Applying that back to this year, I would like to work with students during genius hour to guide them in the direction of the topic they want to work with, teaching them not only how to's, and why's, but lessons specializing in building a character that they desire to be. Allowing students to teach themselves, helps them to understand who they are, and the possibilities floating inside of them. As a future educator, my goal is to explain the beauty in learning, and to emphasize the wonder of the world. My goals include getting to know these students, so I can prove to the world one step at a time, how inspiring a simple smile can be, and how efficiently learning takes over the world. |
